Empowering Berlin’s FLINTA Tech Community: Take part in our first Hackathon!

Hack for the Impact

At Girls in Tech Germany we’re excited to announce our first ever Berlin Hackathon is coming this November!

Hackathons are collaborative events that bring together people with diverse skills and backgrounds to solve real-world problems using technology. Hackathons not only promote creativity, but also encourage teamwork, problem-solving, and networking (all great skills for a successful career in tech).

These events are an essential part of the tech ecosystem, and we wanted to host one dedicated exclusively to the Berlin FLINTA community, in partnership with On and our fantastic sponsors Turbine Kreuzberg, Grammarly and Adesso.

Who can participate?

This hackathon is open to everyone in the FLINTA community who works in tech, regardless of their specific roles. Whether you’re a software engineer, product manager, digital marketer, UX designer, data analyst, or have any other tech-related role, you are welcome to join! The goal is to create a diverse and inclusive environment where women from different disciplines can come together to innovate and inspire (and of course, have fun).

Why should you attend the inaugural Girls in Tech Berlin Hackathon?

Hackathons are much more than coding marathons. They serve as a melting pot of talent where individuals from various tech-related fields come together to brainstorm, ideate, and develop solutions to pressing issues. This hackathon will be focused on inclusion  sustainability – exploring how we can move towards a more inclusive and sustainable world, with teams of 6 workshopping and building solutions together.

Here’s why hackathons are a great thing for your career in tech:

  • Innovation: Hackathons encourage us to think outside the box and develop creative solutions to real-world problems. The fast-paced nature of these events fosters innovation and experimentation.
  • Skill Development: Whether you’re a software engineer, data analyst, product manager, or marketer – hackathons offer a unique opportunity to hone your skills. You can learn from experts in your field and acquire new skills by collaborating with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Networking: Building a strong professional network is crucial in the tech industry. Hackathons provide an excellent platform to connect with like-minded individuals, mentors, and potential employers. The connections made during these events can lead to exciting career opportunities.
  • Problem-Solving: Hackathons are built around real-world challenges, encouraging us to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are invaluable in the tech industry.

As well as that – we all know how hard it is to make new friends in a city like Berlin. While Girls in Tech is a community for professional development, it is also a community to meet new people, make new friends, socialise in a fun inclusive environment, and leave feeling energised and inspired. We are aiming to make this hackathon a social event at its core – creating a platform where participants can make genuine connections and keep in touch.

What can I expect from the Girls in Tech Berlin Hackathon?

Friday 17th November – Saturday 18th November

On Friday we’ll meet at our Hackathon base (On’s Kreuzberg office) from 17:30 for a welcome evening to meet each other, introduce the challenges we’ll be tackling and get to know your team. There will be food, drinks, and socialising as well as some speeches from the organisers and sponsors.

On Saturday we kick off the work! From 08:30 teams of 6 will work on their solution to their chosen challenge (all geared around real-world sustainability and/or inclusion problems). The Hackathon closes with pitches from each team, judged by our industry expert jury members, followed by prizes and a party!

Come along to Hack for Impact for:

Teamwork: This is an amazing opportunity to connect and collaborate with women from various tech backgrounds and companies to address your challenge, allowing for cross-functional learning and problem-solving.

Mentorship: Industry experts and mentors will be available to guide and support the teams throughout the event. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from seasoned professionals and gain valuable insights!

Networking: Besides the hacking session, there will be networking opportunities where you can connect with other participants and industry leaders (building a strong professional tech network has never been this fun…)

Prizes: Of course, there will be prizes for the most innovative solutions. However, the real prize is the experience and knowledge gained during this exciting journey.

Food, Drink & Freebies: Thanks to our sponsors, all food and drink will be provided throughout the hackathon to keep you fuelled and energised!

We are so excited about this event to bring together diverse female talent in Berlin to collaborate on solutions towards living in a more inclusive and sustainable world.

Just by taking part in events like this, you are contributing to a brighter future for the tech industry and for women.
